West Bromwich East MP Tom Watson has today demanded Walsall Council improve security on Delves Common to prevent further unlawful traveller encampments.
The site, which borders both Walsall and Sandwell boroughs, has seen multiple traveller encampments over the last 18 months.
Mr Watson said: “People on Yew Tree and Tame Bridge tell me they are fed up and want something done. This site has no security and is being repeatedly breached. Low level fencing, boulders, a perimeter mound or stumps would act as a deterrent.
“Walsall Council own the majority of the site. I understand Sandwell Council would be prepared to fund securing the small section of land near Cherry Tree Avenue but we need Walsall to step up to the mark, too.”
Mr Watson has written to the chief executive of Walsall Council, Paul Sheehan, to ask for security at Delves Common to be reviewed as a priority.
